Saudi Arabia's Regional Cloud Seeding Program is making strides in improving weather conditions across the Kingdom. By leveraging all available opportunities and technologies, the program aims to maximize the efficiency of cloud seeding. A significant shift in their approach includes using ground-based generators to stimulate clouds from high altitudes, moving away from the traditional use of aircraft.
One of the primary focuses of this innovative program is the holy city of Makkah and its surrounding holy sites, such as Mina, Arafat, and Muzdalifah. These areas are given priority to ensure optimal weather conditions, especially during significant religious events.
The Weather Improvement Department, a critical component of the program, operates under the guidance of experts and collaborates with renowned research centers and international universities. This partnership ensures that the latest advancements and best practices in cloud seeding are utilized effectively.
The CEO of the National Center of Meteorology, who also serves as the general supervisor of the Regional Cloud Seeding Program, has actively engaged in discussions to refine these initiatives. New techniques, such as ground generators and a specialized cloud physics research plane, have recently been incorporated into the program. These advancements aim to stimulate cloud formation from the ground, enhancing the effectiveness of the seeding process.
Additionally, the program is committed to sharing its findings and successes at international conferences, showcasing Saudi Arabia’s achievements in cloud seeding technology.
