Discover how Riyadh's Smart Parking Project is transforming urban mobility with over 60 advanced parking machines installed across the city. This initiative aims to improve traffic management, reduce congestion, and provide a seamless parking experience through cutting-edge technology and user-friendly systems. Learn more about the impact and future of smart parking in Riyadh.
Riyadh has recently introduced more than 60 solar-powered parking payment machines and 180 guidance signs as part of its new parking project. This initiative, which is currently in its trial phase, has been active for two weeks and covers over 2,000 paid public parking spaces on busy streets, along with 17,000 unpaid spots in nearby residential areas. The official launch is expected next month.
Parking in the paid area will be free during the trial period until the official launch in October.
During the trial, the project’s website received over 500,000 visits, and more than 7,000 users have already registered on the parking app. The app allows users to pay digitally using various methods and is available on both iOS and Android.
This project aims to make life easier by organizing parking lots and reducing the problem of random or illegal parking. It ensures that residents and visitors can find parking more easily, while also protecting residential areas from overcrowding by vehicles that would otherwise avoid paid parking spaces.
The app also helps distinguish between residents' vehicles and others, issuing licenses to local residents to ensure they can park for free in their neighborhoods. Parking fees will be introduced for commercial areas after the official launch, but for now, parking remains free.
The parking app will offer multiple secure payment options to make it easy for users to pay. Payment will also be possible through cash machines and the project’s website. Another user-friendly feature is the 15-minute grace period before parking charges start, giving drivers a bit of flexibility if they need to leave quickly.
The first phase of this project covers 12 key areas in neighborhoods like Al-Wurood, Al-Rahmaniyah, and King Fahd, with plans to expand to other parts of Riyadh.
