Saudi Arabia Celebrates International Coffee Day with a Focus on Tradition and Culture.

Saudi Arabia, known for its deep love of coffee, celebrates International Coffee Day each year on October 1st. The country hosts various events and activities to showcase its rich coffee culture and highlight the special place coffee holds in Saudi tradition.

Saudi coffee is more than just a drink; it represents the country’s values of hospitality and generosity. Each region of Saudi Arabia has its own distinct way of preparing coffee. For instance, in the central region

(Najd), cardamom and saffron are added, while the southern region prefers cloves, ginger, and cinnamon. In Hail, coffee is made with a mix of cardamom, saffron, and cloves, and in the western region, it’s mainly flavored with cardamom.

The way coffee is served is also rooted in tradition. The dallah, or coffee pot, is used to pour coffee with the left hand, and the guest is offered the cup with the right hand, a custom symbolizing respect and hospitality.

Saudi Arabia is also working to grow its own coffee beans as part of its Vision 2030 plan. The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture is expanding coffee farming to help the country become more self-sufficient. This initiative is also designed to support the economy and reduce dependence on oil.
